Any of the texture analyser range can be used for the product tests listed below.

A selection of special attachments and typical measurements are also shown which are commonly used in this application area. However, this does not show the complete range of attachments available for the testing of hair and hair products. Test procedures include: compression, puncture/penetration, tension, fracture/bending, extrusion, cutting/shearing.

Typical measurements include:

Fixatives: Hair Bending Strength, Dynamic Hairspray Analysis, Hair Tackiness, Stiffness and Flexibility of Polymers, Fixative Film Toughness, Fixative Tackiness, Aerosol Actuation Force
Shampoos/ Conditioner/ Smoothing Agents: Combability Testing, Back Extrusion Testing, Consistency Measurement
Tensile Properties of Hair
Waxes: Wax Hardness, Wax Stickiness
Sachet/Tube: Content removal force


Tensile Grips Tensile Grips can be used to support hair fibres to determine stiffness/ bending strength.	Film Support Rig This rig allows testing of thin, film- like products to measure the burst strength, resilience and relaxation properties.	Tube/Sachet Extrusion Rig Allows manufacturers to measure the ease of removal and application of products such as sauces, pastes, creams and gels.

Hair Combing Rig Enables the comb to be disengaged at the end of each combing stroke for realistic assessment of hair combability.	Penetration Tests Used to assess hardness and stickiness of styling waxes - spherical probes used where product surfaces are uneven.	Actuation Force Testing Allows measurement of the force required to release hair fixative.

Back/Forward Extrusion Rig Forward and Backward extrusion tests enable consistency assessment of shampoo and conditioner.	Thermal Cabinet Wax firmness studies at different temperatures can be carried out with the use of a Thermal Cabinet.

Dynamic Hairspray Analysis

The texture analyser, fitted with a sample holder and spraying devices, is used to determine stiffness of untreated and resin-modified hair, duration of tack, maximum value of tack force, and time of drying.

Application Studies are available for the testing of HAIR products using the TA.XT2i, TA.XTplus, TA.XTExpress or TA.HDplus texture analysers.
